CREATURE SELECTION & STUDY
The Honduran white bat was selected as reference for the creature mark with careful consideration to its unique qualities: white fur, large ears, and yellow nose-leaves. Following comprehensive research, sketches were created to depict the pose and features of the creature mark.
ANALYZING FORM & GEOMETRY
Transitioning to digital methods, the creature mark's form was planned utilizing thin lines to highlight circles, ovals, triangles, and other geometric forms within the body. A rough draft of the mark was created.
CREATURE MARK REFINEMENTS
Constructive criticism regarding the use of tapering lines and intuitive reasoning inspired further refinements.
FINAL CREATURE MARK
Final adjustments pivoted to focus on line weight and the traits of my reference, such as the Honduran bat's white fur.
CREATING A TYPOGRAPHIC COMPOSITION
A short research phase was conducted in order to select a phrase with some sort of connection to my chosen creature. Additionally, the Fibonacci grid was introduced as a foundation for the composition. Early iterations highlight these compositional guidelines.
A series of experiments were conducted in order to build upon previous iterations. As seen in the previous three examples, the words 'blind' and 'world' loosely frame the creature mark. The remaining words and their depictions were developed further to complete the meaning behind the phrase and the composition's balance within the grid.
